About

I'm a communicator who listens for what people mean, not just what they say.

With more than 14 years of experience across the public sector, media, publishing, and marketing, I’ve learned that the real brief is usually hidden between the lines, and my job is to find it.

Today, I’m a Communications Manager II at the Colorado Governor’s Office of Information Technology, a senior role in govtech where clear, human communication matters as much as the technology itself. I advise the Chief Data Officer and the Principal Director of AI Architecture, ghostwriting everything from quarterly memos to government officials to monthly all-hands presentations for 1,000+ employees. I led communications for a 90-day GenAI pilot with 150 participants across 18 agencies, and the results helped shape the statewide rollout and were published as a case study. I’ve also helped build responsible AI and data literacy among 10,000 state employees and kept 18 agencies aligned during high-severity cybersecurity incidents such as Log4j and the CrowdStrike Falcon outage.

Before that, I spent several years with The Agora Companies (namely, 14 West and the internal digital marketing agency, Agora Integrated Marketing). At 14 West, I led technical communications strategy, lifted employee outlook from roughly 35-40% to 65% in six months, and ran newsletters with a steady 75% open rate. At Agora Integrated Marketing, I launched a publishing vertical and a chatbot-as-a-service product that landed 4 signed contracts within nine months. I got my start at RVANews and took on freelance projects in retail and real estate to keep the creative juices flowing.

I lead with kindness and integrity, and I’m funnier than most people expect from someone who writes about government technology. I’m blunt, but being from Virginia, I’m at least nice about it.

As the youngest of four siblings, I spent a good part of my life left out of the conversation. I don’t want anyone else to feel that way, and it shapes how I work: everyone gets a seat at the table and a chance to be heard.

I hold a B.A. in English, a B.S. in Psychology, and a minor in French from Virginia Commonwealth University. I’m a Richmond native with a chapter in Baltimore, and I now call Denver home because the mountains called and I didn’t want to leave them on hold.

How I work

  • Partner early. The best communications start before project kickoff, not the week of launch.
  • Right information, right people, right time. Multichannel when it needs to reach everyone, tailored when it doesn’t.
  • Let the data talk. Open rates, engagement, and reporting show what landed and shape the next message.

Freelance + Contract Work

Since 2008 I’ve freelanced as a writer, editor, and ghostwriter. I’ve written content and newsletters on culture, food and drink, daily news, and technology, and edited nonfiction books. That includes copyediting two books by top real estate producer Ron Howard: the bestseller Create Demand and Stop Chasing Business and Profitability & Performance Pitstops for Real Estate Rock Stars and Team Leaders. As a ghostwriter, my job is to capture the author’s voice and leave no trace that I was there. So the best of that work is the work you’ll never know was mine.
