Executive and technical communications for 20+ technology teams

At 14 West, I wrote for the C-suite and built the communications strategy for the technology and media solutions departments, including two monthly newsletters, team campaigns, and data-driven targeting. That work earned a promotion to lead the function.

The challenge

14 West’s technology and media solutions departments had more than 20 teams shipping work that affected employees, partners, and clients. Leaders needed to speak clearly about that work, and each team needed its changes understood. Without a strategy, updates were inconsistent and easy to miss.

My approach

  • Executive communications. I developed presentations, speeches, and company-wide and client-facing emails from first idea to finished product. I wrote them for the chief operating officer, chief of staff, chief information officer, chief client officer, and other key leaders.
  • One editorial engine. I owned the full editorial process for two monthly newsletters, one for internal teams and one for clients. That covered content planning, writing segments, editing, and working with contributors so every update was timely, relevant, and concise.
  • Campaigns for every team. I partnered with team leads, product owners, and project managers on communications for new projects and workflow changes, coordinated through a shared content calendar.
  • Data-driven targeting. I used Blueshift, Qlik, and ThoughtSpot reporting to get the right message to the right people at the right time, and shared key metrics back with stakeholders.

Results

I was promoted to Sr. Manager, Technical Communications Strategy, leading a team that built strategic, sustainable communications across all 20+ teams, managed the mailing and automation platform, and ran campaigns for each technical team and strategic partner.

Along the way, the two monthly newsletters held a consistent 75% average open rate, and employee outlook rose from 35–40% to 65% within six months.
